Ways to Give

We hope you will consider some of these other tax-advantaged opportunities in support of the HSO. We encourage you to consult with your tax, financial, and/or legal advisor today about whether you can take advantage of these charitable giving opportunities before December 31.

  • Donors who itemize returns may now deduct up to 100% (increased from 60%) of their 2021 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) for charitable gifts in cash to qualified charities.
  • Donors who do not itemize tax returns may now take an additional “above-the-line” deduction for charitable gifts made in cash of up to $300.
  • With capital gains tax rates expected to rise, now is an ideal time to take advantage of the current rates by making gifts of appreciated securities, such as publicly traded stock or mutual funds that have been owned for more than a year.
  • The law allows individuals 70½ and older to make a gift from their individual retirement account without incurring income tax on the withdrawal. This is a great way to make a lifetime charitable gift from your retirement assets.

Symphony Fund

Join our growing community of music lovers who support the Harrisburg Symphony with a contribution to the Symphony Fund. Ticket sales, while an important and valued source of revenue, cover only a portion of our operating costs. Your gift today will have an immediate impact in continuing the success of our live music performances and music education programs.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities/Stocks

Make a bigger impact by donating long-term appreciated securities, including stock, bonds, and mutual funds, directly to charity and you may be able to automatically increase your gift and your tax deduction.

It’s simple and easy. When you donate stock to charity, you’ll generally take a tax deduction for the full fair market value. And because you are donating stock, your contribution and tax deduction are instant. Would you prefer to donate bonds or mutual funds? The same benefits apply.

Planned Giving

Have you ever considered including the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra in your will or estate plan? Your thoughtful planning can help the beautiful music to continue far into the future. Bequest, charitable trust, gift annuity, and other planned giving options offer donors creative ways to support the Harrisburg Symphony — and can provide attractive financial benefits to you and your family. For more information please contact the Development Office at 717-612-4964 or email ccomasco@harrisburgsymphony.org.

Endowment Opportunities

Endowing an orchestra chair helps provide the funding to keep the orchestra playing, while giving you the opportunity to support the instrument you most enjoy.

Business Tax Credits (EITC Program)

With cutbacks in local districts, schools need our help to provide quality music education. By participating in the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program, Pennsylvania businesses can have real impact for students throughout the region.  Last year more than 12,000 students from public, private, and home schools benefited from the educational programming of the Harrisburg Symphony. By designating business tax credits to the Harrisburg Symphony, eligible businesses can receive substantial tax credits for their contributions. These tax credits can then offset numerous state business taxes. For more information please contact the Development Office at 717-612-4964 or email ccomasco@harrisburgsymphony.org.

The Harrisburg Symphony is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization and contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Gifts of all sizes are welcome and appreciated. For more information about how you can support one of Central Pennsylvania’s cornerstone cultural institutions, please contact our Development Office at 717-612-4964 or email ccomasco@harrisburgsymphony.org.

Company Matching Gift Programs

Does your company offer a matching gift program? If so, request a matching gift form from your employer, and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will do the rest. The impact of your gift to Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra may be doubled or possibly tripled! Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.
