Dress Code & Fragrances

Attending a Symphony Concert is always a special occasion. Therefore, most patrons enjoy dressing up a bit.

Today’s standards for business formal dress or business casual dress are both acceptable for concerts at the Forum.

It’s also recommended that patrons refrain from using strong perfumes and colognes. A patron sitting nearby may have a fragrance allergy.

Starting Times & Late Arrivals

Masterworks & POPS Concerts are on Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 3 PM.

For Masterworks concerts, the Forum auditorium opens one hour and fifteen minutes prior to the performance. We encourage you to come early and enjoy the pre-concert lecture, which starts one hour before each performance.

For POPS Concerts, the Forum auditorium opens one hour prior to the performance. Again, we urge you to come early and get settled in your seat(s) in plenty of time to enjoy the concert.

Once the music starts, the ushers have been instructed to close the doors and not allow anyone into the hall until the first break in the program, usually after the first piece. No one will be allowed to take his or her seat while a musical selection is being performed. Most concerts have an intermission that lasts approximately twenty minutes.

Special Events have different start times – please see the specific event for starting time.

Wheelchair Seating

Seating for patrons who use wheelchairs is available on the main circle of the auditorium in the final row of sections 204 & 207. Patrons who do not have tickets to these rows should not expect to be seated in them.  Advance arrangements are necessary.

Patrons who are sitting in these areas should use the lift located in the stairwell below section 302. A chair will be provided for guests of wheelchair patrons.

Forum Box Office

The Forum Box Office is located in the main lobby of the Auditorium. The Box Office is open one hour prior to the performance for walk-up sales. No phone orders are accepted at the Forum Box Office.

Will Call (Ticket Pick-up & Replacement)

Will Call services and ticket replacements are provided at the box office in the main lobby. The box office opens one hour prior to performances.

Children at the Symphony

The Harrisburg Symphony welcomes young people to our concerts. Our Musical Chairs program encourages families with children to attend Masterworks concerts together at the deeply discounted price of $42.00 per person for all seven Masterworks concerts! For individual ticket purchases, Child / Young Adult (age 25 and under) tickets are usually available at 20% off the adult seat price.

Many times, we are asked by parents and grandparents, “What is the proper age for my children to start attending HSO concerts?” While there is no ‘one age fits all’ answer to this question, our recommended minimum age to attend HSO Masterworks or POPS concerts is five years.

Please note that every person attending the concert, regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter the concert hall.

To foster the best experience for all patrons, a quiet, focused environment respectful of others needs to be maintained. Performance length varies, but a typical HSO concert runs a little over two hours with one intermission. Some individual pieces may last an hour or more. Children should be accustomed to sitting quietly and attentively for this amount of time. The HSO reserves the right to remove any individuals who are disrupting fellow patrons or the concert setting.

Coatroom

An attended coatroom is located behind the Box Office, just inside the main entrance to The Forum.

Restrooms

Men’s and women’s restrooms are located in the main floor lobby and Promenade level outside the State Library.

Emergency Exits

Fire exits are located on all levels and marked accordingly. The lighted “Exit” sign nearest your seat is the shortest route outdoors. In case of emergency, please WALK – do NOT run – to your exit, unless otherwise instructed. Do NOT use elevators for emergency exits.

Lost and Found

Lost articles are turned into the Forum manager’s office. Claim lost articles by calling the manager’s office at (717) 783-9100.

Elevators

Elevators serving the Promenade level are located in the lobby at the State Library entrance to The Forum. No building elevators are accessible from the front entrance of the Forum without encountering stairs.

Drinking Fountains

Fountains are located outside of the men’s and women’s restrooms in the main lobby and Promenade.

Smoking

The Forum is a smoke-free building. Please step outside the building if you wish to smoke.

Recording & Photography

The use of cameras and audio recorders is prohibited at Harrisburg Symphony concerts, unless prior permission is granted.
