HSYO Auditions / Tuition

2017-18 Auditions – September 5-7, Bishop McDevitt High School Register Now

Our HSYOs are the place to broaden and expand your journey into the world of classical music performance. Each season, young musicians like yourself, begin this journey by auditioning for membership.

Audition Requirements

Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestra
All instrumentalists will be asked to perform the following:
* Percussion audition requirements, see link below

Scales: You must come prepared to perform any scale asked of you from the scale sheet that pertains to your instrument, with the noted tempo and articulation. They can be found on the web by clicking the following link:  http://www.pmeadistrict7.org/scale-requirements.html

Solo: Prepare an excerpt of a solo of your choice that BEST demonstrates your ability.  We do not suggest you play a work in progress.  Play something that shows you at your BEST, even if it means performing something a little easier than you are currently playing.  You will not need more than 2 minutes of music for this, and you do not need to begin at the beginning of the piece if a section from the middle or end is more appropriate.  Please bring a copy of this piece for the judges.

Excerpt: As this portion of the audition is used to measure how quickly an instrumentalist can learn a work, excerpts will not be made known or available until July 15th.   Check back then for a PDF file.  The orchestral excerpt for your instrument can be found on the HSO website as a PDF.  Be sure you prepare the entire selection as marked.  You may skip multi-measure rests.  We will be performing these selections this season.  Prepare only Part I for your instrument (Violin, WW’s, Brass).
