Bassist Duane Botterbusch performs with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra and is Assistant Principal Double bass with the York Symphony Orchestra.  Other orchestra collaborations include playing Principal Double Bass with the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra, Shippensburg Festival Orchestra, and the Pennsylvania Regional Ballet Orchestra.  Mr. Botterbusch taught secondary school strings and served as the Music Department Chair for the Gettysburg Area School District.  As an Adjunct Professor, Botterbusch’s love of pedagogy led to faculty appointments at Gettysburg College, Messiah University, Shepherd University, Mount Saint Mary’s University, Lebanon Valley College, and York College of Pennsylvania.  He has been a guest orchestra conductor for educational festivals throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland.  Previously at Gettysburg College, he served as the director of the college orchestra.  Mr. Botterbusch earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Mansfield State College and Master of Music degree from West Chester State College.  Botterbusch’s private teachers include Henry Neubert at Ithaca College and Barry Green at the University of Cincinnati where he participated in the Congress of Strings scholarship program.  Mr. Botterbusch has been awarded both the Outstanding Studio Teacher of the Year as well as the Outstanding Orchestra Director of the Year by the Pennsylvania/Delaware chapter of the American String Teacher’s Association.  District 7 PMEA honored Botterbusch with The Rodney S. Miller Distinguished Service Award.  A past president of the Adams County Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association, Mr. Botterbusch holds membership in the American Federation of Musicians and the International Society of Bassists where he served as guest faculty member for The Young Bassist Project.

Duane’s wife Karen is also a member of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. Karen plays the flute and piccolo.
