ALSO AUDITIONING FOR THE FOLLOWING VOCAL ROLES:

Joseph Cable – seeking a lyric tenor with a range of E3-G4 – A handsome and intelligent officer, Cable is newly stationed on the island.  Compensation TBD.

Bloody Mary – supporting role: seeking a mezzo-soprano with a range of G3-F5.  A sassy Pacific Island native merchant who makes her living selling souvenirs to the American sailors, Bloody Mary tries desperately to find a rich husband for her daughter Liat who she thinks can give her a better life.  Compensation TBD.

SOUTH PACIFIC AUDITION:  NOVEMBER 12, 2019

The Harrisburg Symphony is holding auditions November 12 for its semi-staged concert production of South Pacific January 25 and 26.  An audition flyer is attached and the rehearsal/performance schedule is below.  Doug LaBrecque, producer and Broadway singer, and Stuart Malina, HSO conductor, will be at all rehearsals and concerts, as well as at the Nov 12 audition.  Stuart will accompany for the audition.

Tentative Rehearsal/Concert Schedule at the Forum Auditorium, 500 Walnut St., Harrisburg, PA (NOT LEMOYNE):

  • Sun, Jan 19: 2-4 pm chorus men; 4-6 pm chorus women
  • Mon, Jan 20: 6-10 pm – Tutti chorus
  • Tues, Jan. 21: 6-10 pm – full company including Capt. Brackett, but not Liat or the children
  • Wed, Jan. 22: 6-10 pm – full company (Liat is TBD)
  • Thurs, Jan. 23: 6-10 pm – full company (Liat is TBD)
  • Fri, Jan. 24: 7:30 pm – full company & orchestra
  • Sat, Jan. 25: 11 am – full company & orchestra; 7:30 pm concert
  • Sun, Jan. 26: 3 pm – concert

We are auditioning for twelve chorus members: 6 men and 6 women.  Compensation for 8-9 services: $300 per chorus member.  Music will need to be memorized for rehearsals and concerts.   Chorus members will be downstage of the orchestra, interacting with the principals.  Each chorus member will have a wireless mic.

We are also auditioning for the supporting solo roles of Lt. Cable and Bloody Mary.  Those two characters will not be needed for the Sunday or Monday rehearsals.  Compensation for both roles will be negotiated with the producer.

Directions: Traveling South on Rte 15: take the Lisburn Rd. Exit; go West on Lisburn Road (left at the end of the ramp); go under the Rte 15 overpass.  Keep straight, then turn R onto Mill Rd.  Go past Grantham road, then turn L onto College Ave – the post office will be on your left.  Go over the train tracks; immediately after the train tracks, turn left to stay on College Ave – if you get to the covered bridge on the right, you’ve gone too far; the Janet and Calvin High Center is the first building on your right.  Parking is on the left along the train tracks and in front of the High Center.  Follow the signs once you enter the building.

Audition Times: We have audition times open between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm at the moment.  Auditions are scheduled five minutes apart.  If you would like to audition, please let me know in which of the slots below you would like to do so.  I will email an assigned time during that slot:

6:30-6:55 pm
7-7:25 pm
7:30-7:55 pm
8-8:30 pm

Audition Repertoire: Please prepare a ninety-second selection from a traditional Broadway musical.

Accompanist:  Please provide a piano/vocal score at the audition. Stuart Malina will accompany.

Resume and Head Shot Requested: Please present a hard copy of your resume or bio and a head shot at the audition.
