The Harrisburg Symphony (HSO) produces and presents several educational and youth-oriented activities that reach thousands of people each season. The planning and execution of these activities are the responsibility of Education Director and the Harrisburg Symphony Education Committee, which is comprised of HSO Board members and other dedicated community volunteers.

Youth Symphony

The purpose of the Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestras is to enrich the lives of young people within a musical community.  We provide the finest possible training, practice and performance opportunities, enabling our students to learn, share and enjoy the power of music.

Musical Chairs: Grades K–12

The goal of Musical Chairs is to grow and expand our young audiences as we introduce and educate them about classical music. We offer discounted Masterworks Subscriptions in select seating areas to students kindergarten through 12th grade.

Welcome to the Concert: Grades K–6

Welcome to the Concert is a free Masterworks Concert activity for elementary-school-age students during intermission. It provides useful tools to enhance the concert experience.

Young Persons’ Concert: Grades 3–8

The Harrisburg Symphony presents two pairs of Young Persons’ Concerts each season, normally one in the fall and one in the spring. The programs are designed for students in grades 3-8 who come from across the capital region and beyond.
