What to expect during the 2021-2022 Season
What is happening with the 2021-2022 season?
Due to construction at the Forum Auditorium and State Office Building, our 2021-2022 live performances will take place at the historic Scottish Rite Theatre, 2701 N. 3rd St, Harrisburg, PA 17110. The Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra has been delivering world-class symphonic music to the region for more than 90 years. Throughout our history, but most especially recently, we have been honored and encouraged by the expressions of support from our extended family of patrons, staff, volunteers, and musicians.
Where is the Scottish Rite Theatre?
The historic Scottish Rite Theatre is a beautiful venue located at 2701 N. 3rd Street in Harrisburg, PA. The hall seats nearly 1,200 people with more than 800 parking spaces on site.
Will patrons have assigned seats?
Yes. We will do our best to assign seats comparable to subscriber seats in the Forum. Patrons will receive an email with their new seating assignments later in September.
How will HSO decide whether to proceed with its upcoming concert schedule?
We have planned a full season of live concerts from October to May, but we realize that circumstances may change. Like every arts organization across the country, we are watching closely to see how the coronavirus affects our plans in the coming months and will announce any changes to our programs as they become necessary.
What steps is HSO taking to maintain a safe environment?
Our conductors, musicians, staff, crew, volunteers, and guest artists are all currently vaccinated. We strongly encourage our patrons to be vaccinated as well, and we encourage, but do not require, the wearing of masks in audiences, especially for those who are at-risk or haven’t been vaccinated. Please do your part to keep yourself and others safe. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, or simply do not feel well, please stay home.
What will happen with educational activities, including Young Persons’ concerts?
We will continue to approach our programs, including Young Persons’ Concerts, in a format that optimizes any and all safety precautions recommended to protect public health
What will happen with the Youth Orchestras?
HSYO auditions for the 2021-2022 season will be held both online and in-person. Decisions regarding ensemble size, concert schedule, and programming will be made in September, in accordance with state and local guidelines.
Have any HSO musicians recently returned from high-risk countries?
No. We are keeping in touch with musicians and guest artists who have visited or live in high-risk locales and asking that they follow HSO vaccination and/or testing protocols.
Will tickets be refunded if I don’t want to attend?
Yes. If you choose not to use your tickets, we ask that you contact the Box Office at 717-545-5598 or firstname.lastname@example.org to request a refund.

Parking for Concerts
Visit our Directions/Parking Page for written directions and a parking map with the best places to park highlighted.
Dress Code & Fragrances
Attending a Symphony Concert is always a special occasion. Therefore, most patrons enjoy dressing up a bit.
Today’s standards for business formal dress or business casual dress are both acceptable for concerts at the Forum.
It’s also recommended that patrons refrain from using strong perfumes and colognes. A patron sitting nearby may have a fragrance allergy.
Starting Times & Late Arrivals
Masterworks & Pops Concerts are on Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 3 PM.
For Masterworks concerts, the concert hall opens one hour and fifteen minutes prior to the performance. We encourage you to come early and enjoy the pre-concert lecture, which starts one hour before each performance.
For POPS Concerts, the concert hall opens one hour prior to the performance. Again, we urge you to come early and get settled in your seat(s) in plenty of time to enjoy the concert.
Once the music starts, the ushers have been instructed to close the doors and not allow anyone into the hall until the first break in the program, usually after the first piece. No one will be allowed to take his or her seat while a musical selection is being performed. Most concerts have an intermission that lasts approximately twenty minutes.
Special Events have different start times – please see the specific event for starting time.
Wheelchair and Companion Seating
Limited seating wheelchair and companion seating is available. Patrons who do not have tickets to these rows should not expect to be seated in them. Advance arrangements are necessary.
Patrons who are sitting in these areas should use the lift located in the stairwell below section 302. A chair will be provided for guests of wheelchair patrons.
Concert Hall Box Office
The Concert Hall Box Office is located in the main lobby of the Auditorium. The Box Office is open one hour prior to the performance for walk-up sales. No phone orders are accepted at the Concert Hall Box Office.
Will Call (Ticket Pick-up & Replacement)
Will Call services and ticket replacements are provided at the box office in the main lobby. The box office opens one hour prior to performances.
Children at the Symphony
The Harrisburg Symphony welcomes young people to our concerts. Our Musical Chairs program encourages families with children to attend Masterworks concerts together at the deeply discounted price of $42.00 per person for all seven Masterworks concerts! For individual ticket purchases, Child / Young Adult (age 25 and under) tickets are usually available at 20% off the adult seat price.
Many times, we are asked by parents and grandparents, “What is the proper age for my children to start attending HSO concerts?” While there is no ‘one age fits all’ answer to this question, our recommended minimum age to attend HSO Masterworks or POPS concerts is five years.
Please note that every person attending the concert, regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter the concert hall.
To foster the best experience for all patrons, a quiet, focused environment respectful of others needs to be maintained. Performance length varies, but a typical HSO concert runs a little over two hours with one intermission. Some individual pieces may last an hour or more. Children should be accustomed to sitting quietly and attentively for this amount of time. The HSO reserves the right to remove any individuals who are disrupting fellow patrons or the concert setting.
An attended coatroom is located behind the Box Office, just inside the main entrance to The Forum.
Men’s and women’s restrooms are located in the main floor lobby and Promenade level outside the State Library.
Fire exits are located on all levels and marked accordingly. The lighted “Exit” sign nearest your seat is the shortest route outdoors. In case of emergency, please WALK — do NOT run — to your exit, unless otherwise instructed. Do NOT use elevators for emergency exits.
