Leise Ballou received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan where she studied with renowned horn teacher Louis Stout. She also studied at California Institute of the Arts and the Aspen and Blossom Music Festivals. Leise served as Assistant Principal horn in the Phoenix Symphony from 1984-1989; she then moved to New York where she spent 22 years as an active freelance musician, playing countless Broadway shows and performing with many of the areas finest orchestras as well as commercial artists: everything from the Metropolitan Opera to Metallica! In June 2011 Leise moved to Baltimore MD.

Leise is the proud mother of 21 year old Nate, a bass player who attends Curtis Institute of Music and 19 year old Jeff, a soccer goalie and pre-med student at Wheaton College in Norton, MA..
