About the Youth Orchestras
(That’s right. There are THREE of them.)
The Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestra
Since 1954, the Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestra has offered talented young musicians an opportunity to play in an orchestral setting with peers from the Central Pennsylvania region.
One of the oldest youth orchestras in the United States, the HSYO showcases some of the finest young musicians from across South Central Pennsylvania.
The Junior Youth String Orchestra
Comprised of string musicians in grades 6-9, the Junior Youth String Orchestra is the junior high school division of the HSYO program.
The Elementary String Orchestra
The ESO offers beginning string players in grades 4-5 a full string orchestra experience, and helps prepare students to successfully join the Junior Youth String Orchestra.
2020/2021 HSYO Concerts and Rehearsals
All ensemble performances will be video recorded. The performances will be premiered online at a date to be determined. Check back later for more details.
For the 2020-21 season, HSYO will follow a two-semester schedule, Fall and Spring. Semesters will run as follows:
- Fall 2020: Monday, October 5 to Monday, November 23
- Spring 2021: Monday, February 22 to Monday, May 10
Weekly Health Questionnaire
All HSYO students, volunteers, and staff will need to complete a weekly, online Covid-19 questionnaire before arriving to rehearsal. Upon arrival, the temperature of each individual will be taken and recorded by an HSO staff member. Any individual with a temperature of 100.3 or above will be asked to leave rehearsal. This procedure will ensure vigilance in preventing the spread of Covid-19 within the HSYO community and allow for effective reporting should a case(s) emerge.
